Topic: You know what? I fucking hope Trump destroys the US Postal Service

Anonymous A started this discussion 5 years ago #102,172

Then all of the Trump cultists, most of whom are inbred toothless hilbillies on welfare, will not get their welfare check. I will laugh as those foolish idiots reap what they have sown!

You know the stimulus checks are direct deposit, right?

> If you didn’t receive your stimulus check through direct deposit, you are likely to receive your stimulus check, also known as an Economic Impact Payment, in the mail as a paper check or debit card.
> If you receive Social Security or disability benefits, you may have received your stimulus check through direct deposit. If not, you will likely receive your stimulus payment by mail.

That's only for people who don't have bank accounts on file with the government. A very small number.

> USPS, in its role as an essential service, will accept, process and deliver an estimated 60 million checks from the U.S. Treasury Department. About 5 million to 8 million pieces will enter the mailstream each week for about eight weeks.
> Both the economic impact payments, also known as stimulus checks, and the eligibility notices will be letter-size First-Class Mail pieces.

I know precisely fuck all about these stimulus payments, but when it says 60 million cheques, I assume many of those 'cheques' are actually just the eligibility notices or whatever other documents accompany the deposit, then? Because otherwise, 60 million doesn't seem like a very small number.

The Treasury department also sends out tax refund and Social Security checks so I would doubt all (or even the majority) of those are the stimulus payments.

The bar for getting the stimulus check direct deposited is very low. All you have to do is have a bank account that the federal government is aware of (eg you had used it for a previous tax return or to get social security or welfare).

If you have a bank account, there is absolutely no reason not to have money from the government direct deposited. Many banks and credit unions offer free checking accounts, and indeed a lot of employers now no longer issue paper paychecks so the vast majority of working people have them.

Actually, you get direct deposit if you had your tax return paid via direct deposit either this year or last. From what I read, it all depends on the tax return they use to determine how much you should get from the stimulus package.

I should add also 60 million checks is a very, very tiny fraction of USPS volume. They handled 142.6 billion pieces of mail in 2019.

The 60 million is over 8 weeks, during which the post office would handle about 22 billion pieces of mail - so about 0.27% of the total mail volume is treasury checks for that 8 week period. When you take into account total mail volume, 60 million checks is not going to overwhelm the post office.

The stats they are using are probably tweaked to make the current Andministration look bad.

They probably included the people who wernt even eligible for a check, in the number of people who 'didn't get a check'.

Similar in a manner to weird calculations used in the coronavirus stats.
