I have no idea what he was like as a person (and neither do you, OP) but was he fuck an overrated musician. If anything he was underrated. He was a guitar virtuoso by the age of 19 despite the guitar being nowhere near the main instrument in his music. As a teenager he wrote and recorded his first album and played every single instrument on it. He was 25 when he did Purple Rain - go get yourself a guitar and see how many years it takes you to nail that solo, pinch harmonics and all. He released 39 albums in a relatively short career, and some of them were genre-defining. Overrated, fuck's sake, some people.
