I handwrite all of my Minichan posts. Well, maybe not all of them...

I mean proper handwriting... Cursive.

It certainly is a skill. School at its worst will lack in the transmission of actual skills, preferring instead to waste your school and home hours doing a load of bullshit reading and writing, which you already know how to do. Teach something else too for Christ's sake and Joseph.

Schools also teach Science and History. Let's not forget social studies.

Cursive has never been necessary in my life, but yeah they do teach it really early in schools. I can read it fine, that's all you need. Printing (as in handwriting) is just easier to read, although a few of my letters get joined up anyway.

Cursive makes you write faster for notetaking. It also makes you distinguished.

Cursive makes me write slower for notetaking. If it was faster, I would have used it, since speed is imperative.
And nobody gives a fuck about whether you write in cursive or not. It doesn't make you "distinguished".

They started with cursive in first or second grade for me. I would say nearly all (95%) of American adults can read it. Maybe half can write it (I myself can, but it is a skill I literally have never used outside of elementary school).

Practice your writing and you will get faster. Those who don't care are those without class.

You should start today.

when people hand print their letters separately, they will tend to speed up to the extent that the letters become joined. teaching the skill is an attempt to standardize how people do the joining so that we can hope to read what the fuck other people wrote.

I like my handwriting how it is. It's clear, legible, and fast to write.

People are individuals, with individual handwriting speeds. My letters join up a bit naturally, but I certainly don't write the Palmer method cursive they taught me in school. That's the worst kind of handwriting.
I'm curious what your handwriting looks like.
