Topic: I’m looking for a good cheap MacBook.

Anonymous A started this discussion 5 years ago #101,932

I don’t care if it is state of the art. I just want a MacBook for more creative pursuits since they have Pages and I honestly like that program better than any other word processors. I’m willing to buy a used or refurbished one from eBay but I don’t know what year model is good. I still want decent RAM since it’ll be nice to play some casual games from time to time. But my primary usage is purely for creative works.

I watch Louis Rossmann and that has put me off buying MacBooks.

Why not a Mac Mini? They seem to be a lot less fragile and you can get a new one for only like $600.

Really though I would wait another few months until the ARM models come out. Buying an Intel Macintosh now is like buying a PowerPC Macintosh in 2005. You're not gonna get all the cool software that's going to come out in a few years. Intel is dead, for Apple at least.

If it's a charging port it's likely to be either a bad physical connection to the connector, or a dead chip. Charging ports are internal and so don't get damaged if the laptop is dropped.

Typewriters have a learning curve if you're used to computers. Plus you have to find one that's in good shape (they no longer make good typewriters), try to find ribbons, etc. This is going to put roadblocks in the way of whatever creative work you are trying to do, which is the opposite of what you need right now.

Typewriters also need periodic cleaning and maintenance - good luck finding anyone that still knows how to work on them.

You could just open up Word and set it to Courier New, disable all spellchecking and autocorrect, and literally get all the benefits of using a typewriter with none of the drawbacks.

Wal-Mart sells typewriters and aren’t there also pawn shops and antique stores. I had an en electronic typewriter when I was a kid.

Plus it seems perfect for me since I tend to make a lot of mistakes so maybe this device would help me in not doing that since you really have to focus on what you type or else you have to start all over.

I will definitely write screenplays on one.
