I generally err on the side of caution for handing out bans for low-level disruption like that. If I were to ban people on the basis of "is generally annoying", then I'd have to ban multiple users. But the other mods are a bit more proactive in handing out warning bans for people who go a bit too far (like Bert), so it balances out.

Yeah, I've tried to be hands-off with him too. But he's consistently following people around to harass them in completely unrelated threads, and generally shitposting and derailing considerably more frequently. Some of his posts threatening to target Triptych (e.g. hiring a PI, "driving up to Canada" to pay her a visit, etc.) are posts I don't think we'd expect any other user to tolerate. It's irritating and disappointing that some posters here act as if she shares equal blame when threads are derailed by his persistent harassment. I understand there's a bit of back-and-forth between them, but he's always been the one to initiate it, and he then takes it further by making serious threats concerning real life. If he doesn't stop that, I can't see why his next ban shouldn't be permanent.
He's amusing and I tend not to want to ban people, but there's only so far "but he's fun to keep around!" will stretch.

I agree that he's deteriorated lately, and I think he's unlikely to improve. Something permanent is probably the only thing to do, if he doesn't stop.
When he comes back, let's try to be really fair and lay out that it's his last chance, and explain exactly what he needs to not do. I doubt he'll listen because his self-awareness is non-existent, but still.

That honestly really bothers me. I understand that for a while i was going around instigating shit and shitting up the board as well, but I cut that out a fair while ago. I try to legitimately contribute to threads, including his threads, and he follows me around from post to post to start shit. And somehow I'm just as bad because I don't lay down and take it? He continually goes out of his way to make me feel unsafe and uncomfortable here, my favourite internet community. The threats to get a PI or pay someone for my dox and "ruin my life" are unsettling - besides the irony with how much he whines about Syntax invading his privacy.

Try 99% invisible if you want to get into them. they're these super polished and well edited reports about all kinds of design related things.
There's one about ice mining and one about la koreatown and one about the green book which is some kind of US travel guide for the blacks and one about best before dates and a two part about the Bijlmer which is a neighborhood built outside of Amsterdam that was like modernist utopia turned into a ghetto

Oh yeah I never got into those sorts of podcasts especially. They don't contain any information I don't already know, and I have people with whom I can have those sorts of conversations. So why waste my time listening to other people have them?
I can understand liking those podcasts if you long for those sorts of conversations but don't know anyone to have them with.
