I wear a mask every single time I go out in public (since early March), religiously use hand sanitizer (since way before the pandemic), and try to keep distance from people in public (again, since long before the Chinese Flu).
Why? Because I don't want to get sick. Even with the common cold or some shit. Being sick sucks and I don't want to do that. Who would?

Fauci never said that though, someone called Steve Bannon just pretended he did. Fauci only said 'not to fret about it', and that was in january. If he had told people to use masks back then there'd have been a shortage in healthcare facilities etc. Masks aren't without disadvantages. People without medical training don't know how to use them properly and they give a sense of security that might lead to people keeping less distance. some places have been doing a lot better without or with limited mask use than the us has with.
In february trump said they shouldn't shut down the economy over something that would kill less than influenza does and that the number of cases would be zero soon. Also, he has shown being incapable of managing either the health or economical impacts of this virus
