Topic: A top Yale epidemiologist calls for Hydroxychloroquine, Azithromycin, and zinc to treat COVID-19

An interesting read. Hugely improves outcomes when given early (not so much when given late in the virus). I think we need to promote this, since it is very effective and we already have all the ingredients necessary.

No, Brie. People didn't like him saying that because, at the time, there wasn't clear evidence to support that the drug was effective. Becky did an excellent rundown of the situation here:

He was impulsively giving out unproven medical suggestions, which is highly inappropriate and irregular for a head of state to do during a pandemic. He did a similar thing when he blurted out that injections of disinfectant might be an effective treatment.

However, skimming this article it seems like there's a good amount of evidence emerging that it is helpful in the early stages of COVID-19, so I agree that it should be used if the evidence supports it.

But what if it's broken in a way that causes it to run slightly slow, or fast? What if the hands have fallen off? Didn't think that one through, did you?

Clearly he was being advised. Good advice, as usual

Is there already a completed study with robust statistical indicators? Because of the unhatched chickens.

Wait, Newsweek? Is there a link to a medical journal in the article? If there are indicators that it could be helpful, then that is reason to do actual studies. But I'm curious if there was actually a Yale study. Or are we still at the "worth looking into" stage?

also the financial interest in a company is what is known as a "conflict of interest" which used to be something frowned upon in politics

If the hands have fallen off you could just draw on some new hands with a felt tip pen, and the clock would then be right twice a day. As for running slightly fast or slow, all clocks are "broken" in this manner... ???

The whole controversy started because Trump found a French study showing efficacy of HCQ for COVID. He wasn't just throwing random drugs out there. What I really wonder though is who actually discovered it originally and how they did. Like did someone notice patients already taking HCQ for rheumatoid arthritis had better COVID outcomes? It would be really interesting to know how a malaria drug became a coronavirus treatment.
