Part of the reason I don't leave is because all sites like this are on the precipice of destruction in my mind. GHOUL and SC are gone, and TC is incoherent, somehow MC just hasn't gotten there yet.

In Latin, it's an adjective, but when used as a noun in English it's technically "rectums". This is a common mistake.
The same mistake is frequently made with the words "virus" and "octopus", though the latter is actually from a Greek word.

In English it's rectums of course. I was talking about Latin.
I'm fairly sure I've seen virii used in scientific texts.

In Latin, "rectum" is an adjective meaning "straight" or "straightened". Occurrences of the false word "recta" as a plural of "rectum" are only used in bad English writing.

In Latin, adjectives agree with their nouns in gender, number, and case. In addition, it is fairly common to elide the noun and write just the adjective. So yes, the plural is recta.

To elaborate, rectum comes from the phrase rectum intestinum. Intestinum is neuter. Rectum is second declension. So the nominative plural is recta intestina. Elide the noun and you get recta.

That would be the plural when used in Latin with a noun. In English, "rectum" is a noun, not an adjective.
Viruses, octopuses, rectums.

And as I said, I have been talking about Latin since the beginning. You're coming in and saying I'm wrong because...it's true in Latin but not in English. But I'm not talking about English, I'm talking about Latin.
At no point have I said that it's reasonable to use recta as the plural in English. Because that's wrong.

I have an exercise for people who insist that a loanword from Latin must still behave as Latin in a modern language: translate procyon lotor from Latin to Dutch (or Italian, or Chinese, or Japanese), then to English. The meaning gets lost when you try to translate it literally.

I am not insisting that this loanword from Latin should still behave as a Latin word. I'm just talking about how the Latin word behaves. I am not advocating that people use the English word that way. You're being silly and arguing with points I'm not making.

You've been arguing a point that I never made, silly. This whole time I've just been talking about how the Latin word behaves in Latin. Not English. You're the one who's dragging in English and modern usage when I'm not concerned with those things in the least.
And "recte" is just wrong in every language (unless you are speaking to and directly addressing a rectum)

Yeah, and tbh, I don't think anybody here (whom I trust) would be able to run this place confidently — as in, set up TinyBBS, maintain the server, perform the various administrative tasks (update packages, fix broken dependencies, perform usual maintenance, check on backups and the various cron jobs, a million other tiny things that crop up, etc.). Maybe AC if he were here, but I sincerely doubt he'd be interested. If I ever abandon the foræ (or die in a tragic blimp accident), it'll probably just disappear. Or r04r would take over briefly, until somebody else comes along.
