That is probably true. It is also an entirely different point to the one you first made, which was, quote, "the chances of TWO posters on obscure Minichan both having an elevated knowledge of Catholic theology are minuscule". Yeah, I just figured the shtick had run its course. Like I said earlier it was never really meant for here, it was a TC thing. Pissing off the mods at Tinychan was part of the fun but I never felt comfortable playing the role here because this place is decent and the priest iteration of Merrin is kind of an all-or-nothing character. It's only funny when I'm being a full-on troll. It was amusing doing the obnoxious casuistry with the salivating pedophiles at TC but here it doesn't fit, especially with Syntax gone. I've also grown to like Svet, despite finding his politics stupid and abhorrent, and wanted to confirm his suspicions about who's behind the wind-ups.

Sometimes when the topic of "Is he really TG?" would come up on TC I'd use the search function to look up old posts of his and name-drop people he'd mentioned or refer to things he'd done. Syntax would then consult his 87 volumes of forensically-archived Tinychan posts and write a new wall of text about TGComix. It was immense fun.

Matt is incredibly easy to spot. I've outlined the litmus test before, it goes like this: "If it's dumb and obvious, it's Matt".
Matt likes to scour the length and breadth of the internet for arcane tidbits of information that he feels he can use as 'gotcha' moments to show that people are not educated in the things they claim to be educated about. Threads that open with things like "Father Merrin, is pre-marital sex a venial sin?" are precursors to him posting the article he just read about an 11th century Pope banging his unmarried sister and then issuing a papal decree to absolve himself of any guilt. People who are poorly-educated, as he is, take refuge in pedantry.

Etymonline disagrees.
pathetic (adj.)
1590s, "affecting the emotions or affections, moving, stirring" (now obsolete in this broad sense), from Middle French pathétique "moving, stirring, affecting" (16c.), from Late Latin patheticus, from Greek pathetikos "subject to feeling, sensitive, capable of emotion," from pathetos "liable to suffer," verbal adjective of pathein "to suffer" (from PIE root *kwent(h)- "to suffer").

Just before the bit about Late Latin, you'll see > from Middle French pathétique "moving, stirring, affecting" (16c.)
The définition of the word in English has shifted since 1590, but it still entered English from French.
The modern definition of "pathétique" in French apparently includes both the old "arouses a deep feeling" as well as the contemptible sense mirroring the modern English "pathetic". I'd imagine the latter usage is more common in speech, but I couldn't claim to be certain.

Yes, and both words ultimately come from Proto-Indo-European via Latin. Your point?

Yes, that is true, but the English word 'pathetic' has not had the former meaning for quite some time, again, hence my "not really" comment.
If one uses the French word 'pathétique' in an English context, it pretty much always takes on the 'invoking emotions' meaning. Anyway, I used the word because it was what came to mind following Dave's "endearing and tragic by equal measure" description. I'm not surprised it got a hit elsewhere as a candidate for a collective noun for sycophants. It's quite fitting IMO.

That's easy, since you have repeatedly made the schoolboy error of assuming anything Matt says(or anybody else on this board for that matter) can be taken even slightly seriously. This website is the worst.

Incorrect. There's a very good reason.
You'll notice I don't spend nearly as much time on you, because you're a rude, boring and uninteresting little twerp. That's right - you are an even less appealing personality than Dave.
jodie... eugh.

I'd still say TC is worse... even given this abortion of a thread.

Which is why I mock him in literally every post to him and indeed coined the maxim "If it's dumb and obvious, it's Matt shtick".
> Go and reread all those idiotic Catholicism threads, e.g. "Will you perform extreme unction on me, Father?"
So, ladies and gentlemen, Anon B/N was banking on people not actually looking up his example (hence his not citing it). This is the thread in which he thinks Matt "extremely successfully trolled" me:
If you had any doubts that Anon B/N has no clue what "extremely successful trolling" looks like, and therefore considers Matt to be good at it, let those doubts be dispelled henceforth.

Oh God so you're the "Joshy eats peepee" guy as well? You and Matt should go find a therapist who does 2 for 1 deals for the same social maladjustment.

I actually have something I'd quite like to ask you. It was you who went hard on trying to troll The Doctor a while back, right? Could I ask, did you get much enjoyment out of it? Why'd you go for him?
Because, it really was like watching an unstoppable force fighting an immovable object. You went for him quite hard, but he was never the least bit phased by any of it.

No idea. I think Matt coined it and his catamite here Anon B/N joined in.

On the contrary, I was counting on the fact that you would not be able to resist looking it up for me and trumpeting your triumph all over again (though I see you steered well clear of the ludicrous language challenge). And I was right. Thanks. That was most satisfying. The fact that 2 months on you are still taking it all so seriously and seem to be so desperate to come out on top... of Matt... well. Nuff said.
You failed to cite an example of a TC thread you think I participated in. OK, let's see... Here's a half decent conversation I once had with you. I was Anon B (only): https://tinychan.net/topic/54203

Lol, how do you keep track of all these "guys" you imagine? If anybody, the "Joshy eats peepee" guy is Matt.
Are you saying that all I have to do to become "the xyz-guy" in your head is make a reference to xyz? How on earth do you cope with reality?
> What does "Joshy eats peepee" even mean?
As far as I know, Josh was what Scatman started calling himself, and Matt used to annoy him with it (hence my comment to Anon C, who is almost certainly Matt). It seems he did this in retaliation, because although the board was called scatchan, Josh would regularly delete anything and everything to do with scat, i.e. 90% of Matt's schtick.
I think it's also a reference to peepeeandpoopoochan (yes, there really was such a place).
> How do you feel her moderating was bad for Tinychan? I wasn't over there much, so I don't have much insight. > > It's mildly interesting to me how Minichan and Tinychan diverged, and MC ultimately did okay while TC just kinda deteriorated.
Wait, Fuckalms was female?
tteh !MemesToDNA replied with this 5 years ago, 2 minutes later, 3 weeks after the original post[^][v]#1,152,250
In hindsight, it was telling that she would never answer any inquiries about her gender. But I can understand why a woman might keep that on the down-low on the chans.
Father Merrin !u5oFWxmY7U replied with this 5 years ago, 2 hours later, 3 weeks after the original post[^][v]#1,152,302
I don't want to make that mistake again. Who else on these 2 forums we're talking about (MC and TC) is female? I mean properly female, not the Catherine thing. Kook, Triptych, Ducky, Fuckalms, who else?
