The United States prison system is just a continuation of slavery, but that would imply that slavery ever truly went away. I prefer to think of it as slavery as despite regulations against involuntary servitude the prison system still abuses the thirteenth amendment to infringe upon human rights and decency. If you don't believe me and remain skeptical because you're some kind of broke conspiracy theorist then here is the thirteenth amendment in all of it's glory as well as the source of the information.
SECTION I
Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
SECTION II
Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
