I thought that the UKEnglish just left the Washing-Up-Liquid™ (pronounced as one word) to dry on the dishes.

The washing up liquid dissolves in the water and falls off the plate

Yes it does, unless you wash up in cold/tepid water

So let me get this straight. You scrub a dish with a sponge and soapy water. then you just put it like that on the drying rack?

I submerge the dish in water of a high temperature, scrub it with a scrubbing brush and quickly dip in and out a few times, and then put on the drying rack.

Or that's what I would do if I didn't have a dishwasher.

I mean, I could not do that in good faith without thinking my dishes were still dirty. Why not just rinse them in fresh, new water?

They're perfectly clean as long as you use hot enough water and replace it when it gets too dirty. Proper temperature water makes the food go rubbery and drop to the bottom cause of the effect it has on the proteins.

Luckily your dishes are in the middle, between the food and the oil.

But replacing the bowl with fresh water would probably use up as much water as rinsing them.

Yes but when you take the dishes out of the water they pass through the oil on top of the water

I do not often find oil on my plates! Also washing up liquida break oil so there isn't really oil in a layer on the top.

Anonymous F replied with this 5 years ago, 7 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[^] [v] #1,143,027

I just wash my dishes in running water. No oil build up, no dirty water, just clean dishes.

You can also sterilise everything with boiling kettle water.
