Lol. Years (decades?) of America blustering about closing the border and both of their neighbours closed the borders on them.

Walls keep people in just as much as they keep people out! I can't wait for Trump to finish the wall so that in 2024 when president AOC throws all the straight people into FEMA re-education labor camps, they can't escape to Mexico.

I mean from a practical standpoint if Mexico builds a wall to keep us out or we build one to keep Mexico out it's the same either way. It's retarded, some galaxy brain autistic shit arguing whether the fence in your backyard is to keep you out of the neighbors yard or the neighbor out of your yard. At the end of the day, the result is the same.
I should add, if Mexico closes the border at their own expense, they will have paid for the wall fulfilling two Trump campaign promises in one go ???

On a practical level, yes absolutely. I find it funny at the ego level, where the people that America blusters about rejecting actually reject Americans first.
I doubt they're actually building a wall though. That's silly and impractical and just not the best way to control the border. People will find ways over or under it...or maybe blow pieces of it up.

It seems to work pretty good for Israel today, and the former Communist Bloc 60 years ago, not to mention China 1000 years ago. And Hadrian 2000 years ago... ?

People got through the German wall fairly frequently, didn't they?
The area around Hadrian's wall wasn't exactly heavily populated.
Edit: and it probably wasn't built to actually keep people in/out, but as an expression of Roman power/conquest.
I don't know anything about a wall in Israel.

I wasn't denying that there is one. Just saying I don't know anything about it, its construction, or its efficacy.

Most of the US-Mexico border is sparsely populated desert.
Wiki says 5,000 people successfully defected from East to West Berlin but there's not much breakdown in terms of when (the wall was much easier to cross during initial construction). I'd be interested to see how many crossed when the wall was more or less in its final form.

Many people disagree with America enforcing borders, but agree with other countries enforcing borders. Particularly regarding Israel.

The Berlin Wall didnt really stop West German citizens from trying to enter East Berlin so much as it stopped migration the other way. The Israel wall is the closest analogy but the relationship between Israel and the West Bank is not really comparable to the relationship between America and Mexico. I'm also not sure we want to be emulating that particular part of Israel tbh. The whole country there is absolutely fucked forever.

None of the current or historic examples of walls are an exact parallel to the America-Mexico situation because each country had its own unique relations with the country it was building a wall between. East/West Germany and Israel/Gaza are radically, entirely different, situations with totally different motivations for building a wall. But, in each case, a wall worked to eliminate or significantly reduce an unwanted movement of people.

It "works" for Israel because they shoot Palestinian kids and bulldoze their homes.

West Germans could enter but they had to do it officially and fill out the forms and convert a set amount of money into East German Marks. This was welcomed by the East because it provided foreign currency.

I'm not endorsing or approving in any way Israel's policy on Palestinians. I'm just pointing out that a wall works for them.
If it were just shooting children and bulldozing homes, they could do that without a wall. Probably even better because they could drive the bulldozers around easier. The Jewish people are pretty damn smart. The fact they spent a lot of money and effort physically barricading themselves from Gaza and the West Bank - and many different societies independently coming up with the same concept going back thousands of years - indicates it is worthwhile.

Does any one here feel it is OK for some stranger who lives in the next town up the road to walk into your house and grab a beer out of your fridge...make a sandwich and then head into the bathroom to shit shower and shave?
