Topic: Someone asked me how a sublimation heat press works

blom started this discussion 5 years ago #100,991

So I say, well it uses sublimation to transfer the image
They say, what is sublimation?
I say, it's when something, in this case the ink, goes from a solid directly to a gas without becoming a liquid
They say, I don't get it
So I say, well as an example, it's like ice turning immediately into steam without first becoming water
They say, I don't understand
I say, ice is just frozen water, right?
They say, I don't know
I say, You don't know that ice is frozen water?
They say, That's what I said
I say well okay, if you put water in the freezer what does it turn into?
They say, ice cubes
I say, And you know how steam is made when you boil water, right?
They say, I have no idea what you're talking about
I give up and say, the press works by making the paper very hot
They then get mad because I didn't explain what sublimation is
