Topic: currency: maybe we don't need fucking circulation of coins

Sheila LaBoof started this discussion 5 years ago #100,960

People keep bleating about cashless society but there is a use for cash and it is prudent to have an alternative that doesn't depend on electricity plus a computer network. But all these fucking coins? They can be cute as little pieces of art, but inflation has made them not worth that much and they are annoying to carry and count. Durability is a plus, but the invention of plasticized bank notes for paper money has made that less of a concern. For businesses that rely on slot machines, the token system has already been around for a very long time -- you buy some coin-like tokens at the counter or from a machine.

Perhaps you wish to trade in denominations below £5.00

In China they just round up all prices. They no longer really use coins.

Round up? Nothing got rounded down?

but a durable note is still way less durable than a coin

ah well it's worth a try to see if they are durable enough -- I suspect that they are

They are not! We have had plastic notes for a while, I'm seeing more and more of them get torn.

Asian culture is superior. This is a ancient Confucian gesture of respect to shopkeepers. A stupid laowai like yourself could never understand.

It's a valid question. Surely an expert in languages and linguistics knows how important it is to use clear wording.
