Yeah, I do think this is a bit silly, tbh. In mediums where a VA is used, the character they voice is what counts for the representation and such, IMO, since that's what the viewers see. I don't really understand what this kind of thing achieves.
As far as I'm aware, it's not uncommon in VA-relevant industries for VAs to voice characters of other races, be it a non-white VA voicing a white character or vice versa.

I'm not sure that I have a strong opinion one way or the other. I do think it's rather daft, but I've not listened to many arguments from either side of this 'debate', to be completely honest. Sorry!
