I am watching an elderly, homeless prostitute. She is violent and confused. I have to sit in a chair in front of the door to keep her in isolation and she doesn't understand. I was explaining again and she got angry and yelled that she was tired of hearing the word quarantine. I replied that I was tired of having the same conversation 40 times in a row. Ugh

I bought a car today. Taking tomorrow off to get it registered, hopefully I'll be able to get it done - I've heard it's mad busy so I'm going far and showing up before opening. I'm worried I'll show up and they'll tell me I'm missing some trivial piece of paper. Fingers crossed. It's such bad timing, I've been bothering them for work for ages and have to skip my first day. But it's not like i could have done anything and you need a car...

2006 mazda 5. It's like a mini minivan lol. It's high mileage but the guy has replaced everything, it's never been in an accident, and it rides so smooth. For $1600. If i get a couple years out of it I'll get enough bang for my buck to be worth it and i feel like it could go up to 300k km easily. It was owned by an asian guy with a wife and two kids who took good care of it. And i don't have the luxury of time right now.
Gonna get $200-250 out of the van for scrap and it only cost me $300 in the first place lol

$1600 certainly feels like a lot of money but i mean it's still really cheap for a car. About $1900 with registration and the carfax. Refund for the van registration was $80 and it'll be $260ish for scrap value so it evens out to about $1600

Jesus that's some bad rust ? Those Chrysler minivans weren't famed for their mechanical longevity, either.
The nice thing about Houston/the South is cars don't rust. So they're driven until they wear out. I like watching the South Main Auto channel on Youtube, this mechanic in upstate New York, and it's heartbreaking how many cars that are otherwise mechanically sound have to be scrapped from rust rotting away the structure of the car.

There's lots of snow and salt out here, rust is an inevitability. Especially if you have to park outside like most people. But yeah...the bottom of the van is so rusty the mechanic didn't even want to put it on the hoist for fear it would fall apart.
There's some rust on the new guy too, but the last owner tried to paint over it at least, make it look a bit nicer. At least it's still mechanically sound. Next time I have a day off work that isn't a bank holiday im taking it to a mechanic to make sure everything is ok - carfax said it was in 2 reported accidents in 2013 but no insurance payouts so I'm assuming damage was minor, and the last owner had it three years and said everything was fine. I'm not sure how much I can do to prevent further rusting, unfortunately.

Did you drink that lime juice straight?? Like pure lime juice? A sip, a shot, or a glassful?
And thank you :) i hope so. It's my own fault, I didn't work out like I'm sure they did. But i like having physical jobs, i just hate working out. It feels so pointless. I need my exertion to have a purpose.
Also i was exhausted by the end and it's warm out and the AC doesn't work in my car and there was lots of traffic on the way home. The highway was all stop-and-go for like 20km. It was so hard to keep my focus and pay attention and not zone out, it was scary.
Gonna get a freon recharge kit from canadian tire and i think that'll fix the AC. If not, Canada day is next Wednesday and we're working Wednesday but have Friday off so I'm gonna try to make a mechanic appointment for Friday (for the AC and also just to get it checked out and make sure everything is ok)

Yeah it was fucked in the van too. And i was scared to lower my window for ages (until i got fed up of the heat) because in winter it gets stuck and won't roll up. I had a little fan on the dash but ehhh.
At least the fans work in the lil car, unlike in the van. Moving air helped a tad. And there's a sunroof and my windows all work so all that helped! Except i don't like open windows on the highway. Since the fans work I'm pretty confident it just needs new freon which should be DIY-able :) and i do well in the heat so it's not a big deal until I'm exhausted and the heat starts to make me even sleepier. The pedals don't react the same as the van's did either which doesn't help

It'll be coming into early access next month. Not sure how that'll work for a story-driven RPG, but I might get in on it if it means a lower price.
I've sadly never played the original Baldur's Gates, since I think they've probably not aged well. I imagine it would be like when I went and tried the two original Fallout games, I could just feel those absent years of progress on gameplay design.

Nope! It's in the same building. I'm still gonna spend most of my time at his place. His place is small, there's no room for me to unpack and nowhere for me to go if i want to be alone. Plus if he gets sick of people he can always come over to my place. Most importantly, I won't be sick all winter because I won't have the cats! Our friend is moving to Windsor, I'm gonna move into his place. Discounted rent in exchange for him storing his stuff in the back upstairs and being able to use the place for a bit every few months. Works out perfectly, :)

Ended up skimming the TV Tropes article for Mass Effect on a whim, and now I'm sad that the mishandling of Andromeda put the series onto an extended break. It deserved better than that.
At least there's a new Dragon Age coming soon, which I understand seems to have dodged the internal problems Andromeda suffered from.

Personally, I quite liked it. The combat was really fun and the storytelling was up to the usual high standards for BioWare. It felt like a solid Mass Effect game. But even I have to admit that it was obviously rough around the edges.
- BioWare's disparate teams didn't co-ordiante their work very well
- Their initial idea for the game was too big and vague
- General mismanagement
- The above factors slowed down development, and they ultimately had to quickly rethink the game and rush someting out of the door due to their deadline.

I didnt play it but from watching reviews at the time it had pretty glaring graphical bugs, wooden voice acting, and just a general feeling like the game was rushed.

Pretty much. Subsequent patches did help a lot with the bugs, but the initial release put off a lot of people and the game's sales never really recovered from that.

Protip: you can reset the toner cartridge on most printers and get an extra thousand pages free. Just run them until the prints deteriorate. Same deal with drums.
I was a computer salesman some years back and you would not believe how many people buy inkjet because the printer is cheaper. Trying to explain total cost of ownership and price per page printed was always futile. It's like "yeah you enjoy that $49.99 cartridge good for about 50 pages you fuckin retard".

Just had quite a mad experience. Going to have to describe it with the classic greentext method (or purpletext in this case, I guess).
> Be in second week of new job. > Having a good time, getting on top of it all. > Different guy will be showing me what to do this week. > He's pretty chill, we have some laughs. > We finish up everything for the day. > Chatting to kill some time. > Coronavirus comes up. > Oh shit. > He suddenly unleashes a slew of conspiracy theories on me. > It's the full works. Coronavirus is fake, Bill Gates wants to kill off people with vaccines for depopulation, Illuminati, nanobots forcibly changing our DNA and making us cyborgs, Satanic elites, the Antichrist, the rapture. > I become visibly dismayed and disinterested but he doesn't seem to notice. > I eventually start poking fun at him, asking if the nanobots will turn us into reptilians (no, merely cyborgs) or if Bill Gates or Elon Musk is the Antichrist (he thinks that Gates might be a decoy Antichrist for the Pope). > I eventually stop him by saying we've got 5 minutes left and should lock up.
Fucking hell. I genuinely like the guy besides this, but he's fuckin' nuts.
I really hope he doesn't think I'm someone he can talk to about this stuff, now. If he tries to talk to me about it again, I'll have to politely try and shut him down.

I think it's a little sad that, on some level, you do see Minichan as like your friends or something. But you've completely ruined any chance you had to make friends here with your own spiteful attitude.
It's not even your politics or anything like that, either. Svet is a hardcore alt-rightist, but he still manages to be mostly accepted because he isn't constantly picking fights with people.
I think if you had been just a little nicer and didn't hold grudges you might've had an allright time here, and wouldn't have ended up as a pariah.

Yes. I took the mandatory construction safety course to get my license. That was part of the material. CNESST will pay you if you get hurt on the job.
These aren't technically actually contract jobs, we are hourly workers. It's just how we refer to them.

Working contracts =/= independent contractor. Conflating the two is a mistake.
The firms bid on contracts and hire us. We are hourly workers. We work the contracts, but we are not actually independent contractors.
Many American employers classify their employees as independent contract workers when they're actually not, so as to put the burden of taxes on the employee and not be bound by some regulations/worker protections.
Again, working contracts is not the same as being an independent contractor.

Many Canadian companies...as I understood from reading, also
> classify their employees as independent contract workers when they're actually not, so as to put the burden of taxes on the employee and not be bound by some regulations/worker protections.
and when they do so, if a worker is harmed they may be out of luck from recieving compensation.
Looks like it's basically the same here as there.

> and when they do so, if a worker is harmed they may be out of luck from recieving compensation.
Untrue. If you are misclassified as an independent contractor, you have recourse against your employer. We have a very good labour board in Québec and I gather in other provinces as well.
> Looks like it's basically the same here as there.
Also untrue. Canada is much more employee-friendly and protects its worker's rights more (and has more worker's rights to protect in the first place).
And don't forget that we have a union now, which will also fight for us in my industry.

There are consequences, yes. If you are misclassified, you take your employer to the labour board, who will back you up. They will deal with the employer for you. You will get compensation if you are injured on the job even if you are misclassified. It won't be hard to prove.
Like I said, they're banking on workers not knowing their rights and just going along with it, which plenty of people unfortunately do.
Anyway, the original point is that I'm an hourly worker and covered by worker's comp, which was your initial point of contention.

But at no point were we talking about actual independent contractors. You didn't start out by saying independent contractors aren't eligible for worker's comp. You continuously made, unprompted, many snide and several inflammatory - the most offensive one being about my dead partner (you know how offensive that is, since you've been insulting my dead partner for over a year but flipped your shit when I finally insulted your dead father in turn), while I was perfectly civil. I didn't even post in some topics where you did that, and you did that in response to comments I made in good faith to contribute to topics. My civility did not deter you from incessantly poking and poking. The second I said something mildly offensive you completely flipped your shit.
I conclude that it makes no difference how people treat you, you just want to be unpleasant. Like a child who purposely annoys their sibling til the sibling snaps so they can go cry to the parents and get the sibling punished.
