Should be a national holiday. It celebrates one of the best things this country ever did.

Its when they freed the gosh darn slaves! Slightly more complex than that but thats the gist of it.

No, in part because of the way the war began. We had troops/"advisors" there since like the Eisenhower administration in the 50s. Kennedy, LBJ and Nixon increased our presence there, but there wasn't really a neat beginning date you can point to and say "this is where the war started". The closest is I guess the day the Gulf of Tonkin resolution was passed. We just kinda don't celebrate Vietnam at all.

Makes sense. You're in the South. The South wasn't exactly in favour of freeing the slaves. I can't imagine a celebration that could be seen as commemorating the South losing a war being very popular there.

If you don't like the name of a very old US holiday you are always free to leave the country.

By God, you know what? If it comes down to me or you leaving this country...You will be sitting in Mexico while I'm sitting right here in Tennessee sipping on an epic 3 shot cocktail, buckaroo.
You can count on that.

OP I feel like you would be less sad and miserable about both trivial and not-so-trivial things if you had a proper education. Consider reading a book, or perhaps visiting your local library.

Look...it's fine and dandy to have an annual day of remembrance for an event people feel was important.
It's goofy as hell to call it Juneteenth or anything like that.

Are only black people allowed to celebrate this holiday? I imagine lots of people who aren't black are glad that their country abolished slavery.

I found out why this is now a concern for Bert. Apparently, Trump scheduled a rally on June 19th, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Greenwood, a district of Tulsa, was the site of a vicious attack by white protesters on the African American community. Those protesters killed as many as 100 African American citizens, and destroyed hundreds of buildings. This act is considered the worst case of racial violence in USAmerican history.
Trump's decision to schedule a rally on June 19th in Tulsa pissed off not only the African American community, but also historians. This forced Trump to reschedule his rally for the next day. Had Trump not been so ignorant to these facts, this all could have been avoided and Bert would still be ignorant to the existence of Juneteenth, instead of crying about it here.
