For me it's We Built This City (Starship), Sussudio (Phil Collins), Boom Boom Let's Go Back to my Room (Paul Lekakis), Your the Inspiration (Chicago) and more that I'll find by consulting Wikipedia's lists of hot singles

Taco - Puttin' on the Ritz is pretty rough too. Electroswing is bad but electroragtime is worse.

Was going to add Video Killed the Radio Star because The Buggles just do not know when the fuck to end a song, but I looked up to check and that song's from 1979. Which is basically the 80s, in the same way 1989 was the 1990s to REM, but that's another matter.

If you're not going to draw a firm line that "the '80s" began 00:00:00 January 1 1980 and ended 23:59:59 December 31 1989, how can you define what "'80s music" is? If you say "okay well this 1979 song is basically an '80s song, then it opens the door to "this 1978 song is basically a 1979 song, which basically means it's an '80s song" and before you know it you're talking about The Beatles as being "the best '80s band".
No. Just no.

"They were just waiting for the 90s to start" is the only way to contextualize REM's career in the 1980s in a way that makes sense though.
