My office at Qualcomm sits empty as they wait for me to change my mind and give up consulting. Labs there as in several are working overtyme at momento to test on a design change I made for a mutual client of Q and Thee
Actually they as in Q talked me in2 bidding a project that has shut down a famous company attempt to hit the market with a product that uses 3 Qualcomm chips - Snapdragon is not the only chip Q makes.
New product has to pass stringent FCC tests and in an outside lab that runs such tests as approved by n for FCC the product passed such tests
But the Washington based company then after all tests were done decided to change a part to a less expensive part and make a packaging change
Huge no no AFTER ALL Final tests are done done done
Nor if they go back to original parts does it pass re the package was redesigned and they did a total production run based on 2015-2016 forecasts - As in plans for a couple of follow up advanced models for future
IF My design fix no work for them? They could try another consultant cept by then a competitor will beat them totally to the market
Can I solve the problem? Not allowed to tap into battery power - not allowed to use any circuit parts for several reasons.
Excessive Splatter on RF output is cause of FAIL - Standard solution is a package filter for the output OR a Quality redesign of the RF output stage or total redesign of the RF Chip.

Ham radio tinkers solve this kinda thing with a mechanical cylinder n its called a cavity - Helical wood be ideal cept it wood be 1/3 the size of the current guts
Other tinkers wood try ferrite beads here n there - Profile of current off the shelf beads - they b to high.
So on paper only with computer software tools for RF design I turned the FCC test results of SPLATTER into a Model. Then attempted kinda of a Inverse set of structures to tunnel/funnel/absorb/reflect/shunt/trap/
Doing the math turns out to be a nite mare. Its A HUGE Number of Quadratic Equations and because 5th 7th 9th 11th order parasitics end up as real trash outside the allotted FCC bands -
Anyway I used to do this year ago n was considered one of the best ever - Have not done such a design in many a year. Q has no one on board anymore to do it cause those people left when Q sold off a bunch of RF products them people loooong gone.
The other company lets call em MicroShit - They bought a famous Eu company then laid off massive number of people and they after dumping 1000's of employes recently end up without anyone who can do the deed.
Me may NOT be the best choice given its been years since I did such work.
Computer tools only help a bit cause they cannot handle the higher order function Parasitics.
One terrific thing about a fyne relationship with Q is that they sold off ALL Hardware including the very first hardware on Market that got them in2 CDMA Biz - Omnitracs, just recently sold.
So companies they sold off the cell phone biz2 Kyocera n CDMA infrastructure to Ericsson n other cell phone stuff to Sony and all b in hood all with great working relationships and if need b cause I have a pass to ALL facilities -
I can walk in use technical equipment and everyone thinks I B employee and left alone cause the badges all look the same cept on fyne inspection mine says Consultant. And it was Ericsson who put me through school on Ma Bell money wayyyyy back at my 1st taste of Eu cell phone digital technology.
Crappy but still a great way to get trained - go to school - Did schools in Sweden n Norway - Norway LoL as if I had a clue Nokia wood go almost kaput n MicroShit wood try n save wots left. Nokia could not see Google cumming with Android O/S and Nokia insisted on continued development of a totally failed O/S
