Unfortunately, I am having the same troubles, so I cannot give much advice. However, my one recommendation is to not be too apprehensive about deleting large chunks of your work because it's shit. Although I may do this a little too much, it is not a bad thing to get rid of and completely rewrite multiple paragraphs because they suck, and you may have to go through this multiple times, even for a short story.
