Actually, a few years ago, I picked up a set of two books - "The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Swords and Sabres" and "The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Knives Daggers and Bayonets". Each describes the history and varieties of their respective weapons. I don't remember why exactly I got them, and I'm not really too interested in the subject. However, I enjoy looking at some of the designs, and I have learned a little bit of interesting trivia. For example, the Third Reich had a massive array of decorative "dress daggers" that were given to various members of the Nazi party, as well as others who directly served the government - from the SS guard to the Hitler Youth and even the National Forestry Service! This extravagant use of such dated weaponry was due to Hitler's regime embracing certain aspects of medieval Germany which were destroyed or forgotten as a consequence of the first World War.
