The store is rebranding from being a circle k to peak or something idk, but we're supposed to remove anything that mentions a circle k product, and polar pops are a signature of their brand apparently, so I was supposed to remove the lable. I could not, so I settled for defacing it instead.
I just realized the painters had to take pictures of the building and probably send it to corporate as proof of their work, so my boss's bosses have probably seen it by now 🤣

Fora, I have finally found success in a coin auction! I got this amazing Roman Republic coin from 123 BC, for only £52 (including postage). Feels like an absolute steal tbh.
This coin features Roma, the Goddess-personification of Rome.

I know that the fora isn't too interested in my coin nonsense, but I found this interesting.
Recently, I won an auction for pic related. A Sasanian (ancient Persians/Iranians) coin, and I won with with an unopposed bid of only £22 ($30).
I found that pretty shocking, tbh. I know that the Sassanid Empire isn't anywhere as popular as the Roman Empire, but nobody else wanted this? It's in great condition and features a historically significant ruler. Weird.

That's Khosrau II, the last great Sasanian Shah. Ruled 590-628. He nearly got a total victory over the Byzantine Romans, but then Emperor Heraclius managed to turn the tide and win the war. Khosrau's son then killed him and took power, which started a massive civil war which then left the Sassanids too weak to stop the early Muslim expansion.
Interesting trivia, all of the Sassanid Shahs had their own unique crown on their coins, which is how historians identify them.
The reverse shows a Zoroastrian fire altar.

Sorry, not sure. Or at least, nothing is showing up from looking around on Google.
It was pure silver, though. Unlike the Romans who debased their silver coinage into worthlessness, the Sassanids kept theirs quite pure. Therefore, I imagine it was quite valuable in its day.

Silver is actually quite resistant to corrosion, so ancient silver objects like coins can often come down to us in quite good condition.
This is in contrast to bronze, which corrodes more easily. This means that ancient bronze coins are rarer for certain historical periods, which funnily enough makes them more valuable than their silver equivalents today.

When looking to buy cutlery, particularly stainless steel cutlery, you will likely have noticed numbered gradings such as 18.10 and 18.0 within the product descriptions. These numbers and fractions relate to the percentages of materials used within a given cutlery piece. The specific materials used here include chromium and nickel alloys which are added to stainless steel to improve its overall quality.
Simply put, the higher the grade, the higher the rust resistance, durability and lasting shine.
For example, chromium is represented by the number 18, meaning this cutlery range contains 18% of the material. Similarly, the number 10 or 0 represents the percentage of nickel found in a cutlery piece.
When bonded with stainless steel, chromium helps protect cutlery from many corrosive substances found in food. At the same time, nickel provides extra resistance from rust and corrosion while offering a high finishing sheen. Understanding cutlery care and use will also help you to maintain your cutlery pieces for years to come.

Stainless steel,[1][2][3]: 276 originally called rustless steel, is any one of a group of ferrous alloys that contain a minimum of approximately 11% chromium,[4]: 3 [5] a composition that prevents the iron from rusting and also provides heat-resistant properties.[4]: 3 [5][6][7][8] Different types of stainless steel include the elements carbon, nitrogen, aluminium, silicon, sulfur, titanium, nickel, copper, selenium, niobium, and molybdenum.[4]: 3 Specific types of stainless steel are often designated by their AISI three-digit number, e.g., 304 stainless.[9] The ISO 15510 standard lists the chemical compositions of stainless steels of the specifications in existing ISO, ASTM, EN, JIS, and GB standards in a useful interchange table.[10]
Stainless steel is used for industrial equipment when it is important that the equipment lasts and can be kept clean
Stainless steel's resistance to rusting results from the presence of chromium in the alloy, which forms a passive film that protects the underlying material from corrosion attack, and can self-heal in the presence of oxygen.[4]: 3 Corrosion resistance can be increased further by the following means:
increase chromium content to more than 11%[5]
add nickel to at least 8%[5]
add molybdenum (which also improves resistance to pitting corrosion)[5]
The addition of nitrogen also improves resistance to pitting corrosion and increases mechanical strength.[5] Thus, there are numerous grades of stainless steel with varying chromium and molybdenum contents to suit the environment the alloy must endure.[11]
Resistance to corrosion and staining, low maintenance, and familiar luster make stainless steel an ideal material for many applications where both the strength of steel and corrosion resistance are required. Moreover, stainless steel can be rolled into sheets, plates, bars, wire, and tubing. These can be used in cookware, cutlery, surgical instruments, major appliances, vehicles, construction material in large buildings, industrial equipment (e.g., in paper mills, chemical plants, water treatment), and storage tanks and tankers for chemicals and food products.
The biological cleanability of stainless steel is superior to both aluminum and copper, having a biological cleanability comparable to glass.[12] Its cleanability, strength, and corrosion resistance have prompted the use of stainless steel in pharmaceutical and food processing plants.[13]

Like steel, stainless steels are a relatively poor conductor of electricity, with significantly lower electrical conductivity than copper. In particular, the electrical contact resistance (ECR) of stainless steel arises as to the result of the dense protective oxide layer and limits its functionality in applications as electrical connectors.[14] Copper alloys and nickel coated connectors tend to exhibit lower ECR values, and are preferred materials for such applications. Nevertheless, stainless steel connectors are employed in situations where ECR poses a lower design criteria and corrosion resistance is required, for example in high temperatures and oxidizing environments.[15]
As with all other alloys, the melting point of stainless steel is expressed in the form of a range of temperatures, and not a singular temperature.[16] This temperature range goes from 1400 (2550) to 1530°C (2790°C),[17] depending on the specific consistency of the alloy in question.
Martensitic and ferritic stainless steels are magnetic. Ferritic steel consists of ferrite crystals, a form of iron with up to 0.025% carbon. Due to its cubic crystalline structure, ferritic steel only absorbs a small amount of carbon, which consists of one iron in each corner and a central iron atom. The central atom is responsible for its magnetic properties. Grades with low coercive field have been developed for electro-valves used in household appliances and for injection systems in internal combustion engines. Some applications require non-magnetic materials, such as magnetic resonance imaging. Annealed austenitic stainless steels are usually non-magnetic, though work hardening can make cold-formed austenitic stainless steels slightly magnetic. Sometimes, if austenitic steel is bent or cut, magnetism occurs along the edge of the stainless steel because the crystal structure rearranges itself.[citation needed]

Galling, sometimes called cold welding, is a form of severe adhesive wear, which can occur when two metal surfaces are in relative motion to each other and under heavy pressure. Austenitic stainless steel fasteners are particularly susceptible to thread galling, though other alloys that self-generate a protective oxide surface film, such as aluminium and titanium, are also susceptible. Under high contact-force sliding, this oxide can be deformed, broken, and removed from parts of the component, exposing the bare reactive metal. When the two surfaces are of the same material, these exposed surfaces can easily fuse. Separation of the two surfaces can result in surface tearing and even complete seizure of metal components or fasteners.[19][20] Galling can be mitigated by the use of dissimilar materials (bronze against stainless steel) or using different stainless steels (martensitic against austenitic). Additionally, threaded joints may be lubricated to provide a film between the two parts and prevent galling. Nitronic 60, made by selective alloying with manganese, silicon, and nitrogen, has demonstrated a reduced tendency to gall.[20]

New coin arrived today. This is Julia Domna, an intelligent Syrian woman who was the wife of the Emperor Septimius Severus and the mother of his successor the Emperor Caracalla. I won this in an auction, got a very good price given its good condition.
An interesting detail, for me, is that this coin obviously has a high amount of silver content. Yet my coins further along in the Severan dynasty obviously have progressively lower silver content. They become less shiny and less silver in appearance. The Severans did, notoriously, debase the Roman currency to buy the army's loyalty. But it's quite something to be able to actually see that happening with my own eyes. That's the main reason I enjoy this hobby, I think, these coins are like little windows into history that I can hold.

And I end up doing the same thing I do with games, but with messages, I scroll through a bunch of conversations where I haent responded and just feel overwhelmed and then don't respond.

It feels like I'm existing just to exist. I work a shitty job that I hate. I don't have any skills or qualifications to get a better job. I think I have some executive dysfunction of some sort because I can never commit to anything in life. I'm almost 30 and live with my parents and I've long overstayed my welcome. I'm moving out soon but everything is so expensive that I won't be able to save up any money, ensuring I stay stuck in this situation for even longer. I don't have anyone in my life I feel comfortable turning to anymore. They're all either dead or have left me behind for better things. It feels like I'm trapped in a cycle of work, work, work, and hating every second of my life doing it, just so that I can afford to continue work, work, working. I've lost all motivation and passion for my hobbies.

It's hard out there and all too easy for everything to turn to gray. Having said that, have you considered turning to stimulants? You could easily get a prescription. And short of that, there's always nicotine along with more ways to use it than ever. It also has its own sense of clarity unique from other stims. Not that any of this will solve all or even many of your problems, but I think it will at least solve some of them as effortlessly as you could ever hope for.

I've recently thought that maybe I have ADHD, but eventually figured that I only thought that because for a minute ADHD became the cool thing for everyone to self-diagnose and so I was exposed to a lot of very vague information about it that could apply to anyone. Maybe I have it, but I'm not convinced. My doctor recently dropped me because they don't accept my insurance any more and I think if I saw a new doctor and immediately asked for drugs they would be suspicious.
As for my hobbies, mainly making music, writing stories, coding. It's been at least a year since I've written a single line of code, about as long since I've come up with a new story, and I put maybe fifteen minutes a week into an album I've been "working on" for 18 months. It all just feels like a chore and the only reason I'm forcing myself to put in a whole fifteen minutes a week into music is the sunk cost fallacy.
Most topics I feel like Scott misses the mark and stumbles his way into a conclusion that seems sensible. But on the subject of ADHD, he seems to have enough knowledge to not stumble through his arguments like usual. There's another blog post by him about ADHD or stimulants, but I can't find it now. It's similar in effect though.
What types of things did you program? There's a lot of cool stuff out there now using neural nets to generate music. Things have changed a lot in the past few years, if you haven't already heard.

I really only would do very, very basic stuff. I actually went to school for programming but I wasn't a good student and the stress of school pushed me to my breaking point. As a result, any programming outside of really basic stuff that I'm personally interested in brings me a lot of anxiety. I think the last project I actually finished was a tic tac toe game that runs in terminal, if that gives you an idea of the level of basic I'm talking about, and that was probably three years ago now.

I'm shit at keeping up conversation and she seems to be as well, which is also weird since if it's a scam, they wouldn't want the conversation to die and have a potential victim lose interest.
